As a life-long, forever learner, I learned that it’s best practice to close projects with a self-reflection.
This project expanded my edges into new software, translating my Adobe expertise into Affinity and Procreate. Driving stakeholder interviews and qualitative market research was extremely energizing. The most important thing I learned through testing, is no matter how “cool something could be,” it’s advisable to listen to the target audience.
This was a refreshing experience about font licensing and surface pattern design. Reconnecting with my initial undergraduate interests in illustration sparked my creativity. A new medium appeared: watercolors. Especially an interest in botanical watercolors as I purchased an 1920s wallpaper book online. It’s in a very poor, smoke-stained condition and I can’t get a bookbinder to take the project. Moving forward, I’m left with 3 options: 1) get into bookbinding, and restoration of the physical copy, 2) digital conservation, or 3) recreation with watercolors. Any of these options will help me continue bridge building the gap between tactile media and digital design.
